Day 18

We left Hartlepool this morning, not before finding a beach for a certain lady to have a romp on - she did love it.

It was most interesting as the sand was black! These photos don't really show it but they were!

The wind was in a good direction "Great" thought Paul we will have a good sail, well we did for a couple of hours and then the wind went so we had to motor. We were heading North to Blyth. We passed the entrance to the Tyne river which leads upto Newcastle. We did think about going upto Newcastle but we knew that Jazz wouldn't like it so we carried on. The wind kept coming and going and we ended up having a good sail for the last hour upto Blyth. We had just taken the sails down coming into the harbour and i shouted "There is a dolphin" Of course I was believed - not!! It had to make a number of appearances before I was believed!! Great to see.

We moored up at Royal Northumberland yacht Club where we were warmly welcomed. It was then ashore to find yet another beach - this time it was a golden sandy beach just the other side of the yacht club. It was really lovely - lots of other people out enjoying the beach - with their dogs of course.

We went upto the club house which happens to be the old Calshot Spit light ship from the 1800's! Quite how it ended up here i don't know. We have now just come back to the boat at about 10pm and I suddenly realised that it was so late and still light! How wonderful!

Well I'll say good night to you all - sweet dreams.

  1. Glad all is going well. There was mining in the Blyth area and you can find pieces of sea coal on the beaches still. Are you planning to stop in Craster - famous for its kippers? Nice coastline coming up with some lovely castles. Enjoy. love to all, Mum
