Can't really believe it - we have been away 7 weeks today! Some days it feels like 7 months and others no time at all.
We were ready to move on again. This time we were planning to sail towards the Northern Irish coast.
Our son Jonathan and his girlfriend are coming to join us for a few days. Jonny had planned to fly to Glasgow and join us in Scotland. At the time we spoke, we were near Mull and going south and for us to get back to the mainland Scotland would involve us going North East and possibly back tracking. You can imagine his response when I suggested that he fly to Belfast instead! "Mother Belfast is in Ireland and your're in Scotland!" was his response. I then said that we were going south west and Ireland may be nearer for him to join us - suggested he look at a map!
Anyway we set off for Northern Ireland. The wind was in a good direction and Rathlin Island (off the Irish coast) was only about 20 miles away. We had a great sail and made good progress and in no time at all were off Rathlin Island. It has a very large bird colony there with lots of Guillemots, Razorbills and the dear little puffins. We lots of birds but very few puffins. We then headed for the coast and arrived in Ballycastle late afternoon. We were made very welcome by the harbour master Steve.
