The winds were due to decrease today and an early start to move on - Aberystwyth is tidal and you can only get in and out at certain times. We were up at 7am and the two boats either side of us had decided to move on so we quickly got ready and off we went. It was not very inviting as it was grey, cold and raining. It was shallow outside the harbour entrance which caused waves as we left. The wind was coming from the south west so it was close hauled ( healing and into the wind). There were waves from the past couple of days of windy weather. It was an uncomfortable journey.
I hadn't had a great deal of sleep the night before - I always find it disconcerting lying awake listening to the wind when I know we have to move on. I was not a happy bunny today - quite down really - fed up with having strong winds and only a couple of days in which we could make progress and then when we can move on hard work! It was really misty and we sailed some of the time and motored for the rest.
At about 3pm the sun came out and everywhere looked lovely. We arrived in Old Fishguard a little later on. Old Fishguard is a delightful harbour and we anchored there for the night. Someone wanted to go ashore so we go tout the dingy and went ashore. It was quite delightful.
We found a lovely fish sculpture ashore and a delightful sunset.
