We had been in Peel for 8 nights now! A record for us! In all the sailing that I have done I have never had to stay in one place for that length of time. On the positive, we were in a lovely harbour, safe and an enchanting town and were able to get off the boat and explore. I will admit that I was suffering from "cabin fever" at not being able to move on with the boat. The trouble being that our next trip was going to be 50 miles plus south to Holyhead in Anglesey we wanted good weather and seas!
Well the forcast looked good for today. As I have said Peel has a gate that keeps the water in the harbour when the tide goes out
which means that you can only get in or out at certain times of the day. Well the gate was lowered at 3:15am this morning and the tide was flowing south for us as well so we were up at 3:30am and out of the harbour at 4am - this is us leaving Peel harbour.
It was amazing at how quickly the sun came up - sun over Peel Hill
We passed Calf of Man
Anglesey appearing on the bow and the Skerries light house
We were fortunate as the sea was kind to us and we had a good trip and were in Holyhead Anglesey by 3:30pm.
We then took Jazz for a walk - bless her she has been so good with these long trips.
Holyhead was looking a little sorry for itself but they were trying as there were some amazing deals going as we heard, on the radio, a day trip to Dublin from £5.50! Bargain! We would have gone but we had Jazz so couldn't. Something else that I hadn't appreciated - Holyhead is on an island called Holy Island.
Our very dear friends Susan and Ian also did the same trip as us today. They have a 44 ft motor boat. They did the trip in 3 1/2 hours!!! Can see the appeal of that but not the cost of fuel. They are restricted as when they can travel as we are. If the sea is too rough it makes it very uncomfortable for them.
We said a sad farewell to Susan and Ian - such lovely people and we shall miss them dearly. We were planning to move on the following day what with the wind being favourable - they were going to stay and their next trip would be direct to Milford Haven.
